Victoria Rawlings | The Replacement Service

Back in 2013, I enrolled in a Sports Conditioning degree in Cardiff but after 2 years realised my true interest lay with my part-time Sales job and made the difficult decision to leave my life at university behind. With the help of a local academy, I started a level 3 apprenticeship in Social Media Marketing with a company called TRS Claims, who provide claims management and software solutions for the insurance industry. 3 years down the line, life at TRS has changed dramatically with my role switching more into Business Development and leading the marketing department. Alongside by day-to-day duties, I heavily support the apprenticeship scheme and have become an ambassador in the West Midlands as well as joining The Career and Enterprise Company network.

salome santos

Salome Santos | Marsh

I am from Portugal, where I qualified as a lawyer and worked for seven years as an in-house counsel of a multinational company in the cement industry. I always believed, however, that studying and working in a more globally connected country such as the UK would broaden my identity as a professional and as a person. In 2012 I moved to London to specialise in insurance law and pursue a long-lasting career in this world-class industry.

This was a demanding personal project that involved a huge financial and professional investment: I had to save to pay the tuition fees and live in London as a student for one year, while embracing the uncertainty of taking a different career path in a new country. My driver was the prospect of working in the field that I was passionate about.

In 2014, I was thrilled to join the FINPRO product development team at Marsh, which allowed me to combine my wide-ranging legal skills and my extensive technical knowledge of insurance contract law. Shortly after, I was also appointed as a management liability client executive to major accounts, and became a dedicated resource to creating tailored client-solutions for complex coverage issues. I could not be prouder.

Outside of work, I dedicate my time to different projects. Currently I am a member of Marsh´s Women’s Exchange committee that focuses in gender equality issues, of which I am a strong advocate. I am an avid traveller and I thoroughly enjoy planning trips to different parts of the globe as often as I can. I also practise bodyboard and yoga, which are sports that help me reconnect with nature. My other passion is cooking; I can stay for hours in the kitchen creating dishes and playing with tastes and recipes.

Samantha Eustace | Zurich Insurance

My name is Samantha and I am 19 years old, working in the Insurance Industry. My aim is to make a difference with my career, not just for myself but for others and the industry. I love to be challenged and always seek new and exciting opportunities to learn and develop further.

Irene Dang | Lloyd's

Australian born and raised, I relocated to London in 2015 to find myself at somewhat of a loss in terms of where I stood on the job scene. Having previously worked in a range of government agencies in policy and strategy roles, I had a typically “generalist” look to my CV and found it difficult to clearly pitch myself in any one industry. To add to the confusion, London seemed like a place where you could easily get lost in the minefield of possibilities that the city offers! I had limited exposure to the insurance industry in Australia but when saw an opportunity for an Executive role in the International Regulatory Affairs team at Lloyd’s, I saw a unique opportunity that appealed to both my legal background and experience in government and regulation. Since joining Lloyd’s, my eyes have been opened to the truly unique nature of the work that the insurance industry presents which has spurred an ambition to expand my expertise and positively contribute to the reputation of the sector.

During my time at Lloyd’s, I have had the opportunity to work closely with divisions across Corporation and with the Lloyd’s market, and have enjoyed being challenged in many aspects of my role. I am extremely honored to have been nominated for this award and look forward to continuing to promote the industry as I develop in my career.

Niamh Carty

Niamh Carty | AIG

I was born and raised in Ireland. I have always been very driven, inclusionary and socially active, as well as competitive - representing Ireland in International Acrobatics and Tumbling Gymnastics from a young age. I gradually transitioned my focus from sports to academics and graduated first in my school in 2008.

At university (Limerick, Ireland), I undertook a BA in International Insurance with European Studies and French. During the four years of my degree, I studied different areas of the insurance industry, including underwriting, risk management, statistics, captives, reinsurance/ART markets, interest research topics, as well as spending a semester studying in Lille, France.

I have always believed in hard work, undertaking any and every type job since I was 14 years old. My aim was always to build my independence and improve my mind to pave the way for future successes of my own making.

I joined the Zurich Global Corporate graduate scheme in 2012 and relocated to England, primarily attracted by the opportunity for exposure to the specialised nature of the London market, the chance to gain an understanding of the irregularities of specific markets globally and the complexities involved in corporate insurance programmes. Throughout my time in Zurich, I was employed in Multinational Operation, Broker Development, Energy Underwriting and Underwriting services before moving (across the road) to AIG in May 2016 as a Multinational Client Executive.

Unfortunately, before commencing my new role, I was in an accident and broke both of my ankles several times! Hence, I had a delayed, unique and slightly notorious introduction to the company (in support boots and crutches!)  Nevertheless, I quickly settled in well at AIG, taking on major global accounts, building my own network and gaining a reputation for stubbornness, inquisitiveness and a strong advocate of camaraderie.

This past December, as a member of the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) Organization’s Loss Control Interest group, she facilitated a webinar to educate underwriters on the risk of phthalates.

Outside of her professional obligations, Bisi is a strong advocate for young professionals, diversity and community service initiatives in the insurance and financial services industry. Charlie Lawson | Hiscox

I joined the Hiscox Graduate Scheme in September 2014 in the London Professions and Commercial team. I am now a Development Underwriter, writing a variety of UK retail business, predominantly professional indemnity, cyber and commercial combined insurance. Last year, I wrote one of Hiscox UK’s largest-ever single risks. To win this, I insisted on visiting the client in person, involved Hiscox senior management and provided prompt solutions to the numerous issues raised. I also identified, developed and secured a number of professions schemes and was delighted to be nominated for Hiscox Underwriter of the Year in March 2017.

Born in 1992, I grew up in London. At school, I excelled at sport and became very well-organised juggling this with my academic work, busy social life and Head Girl in my final year.  I played lacrosse for England in the 2011 Under 19 World Cup and captained my school and university teams. I won a Sports Scholarship to the University of Bristol, where I gained a BSc (Hons) in Geography before saving up and travelling with friends in Australasia and South America.

The Hiscox Graduate Scheme included secondments that gave me exposure to other areas of the business including claims and investments. Last summer, I spent three months in the Hiscox Technology and Cyber team in San Francisco, the global hub for this cutting-edge business. Starting from scratch, with no broker contacts or experience of the specialist products, I was happy with my contribution. Back in London, as the youngest member of the ‘Women at Hiscox’ working group, I want to help contemporaries at every level to fulfil their potential. I enjoy developing strong professional relationships with my brokers and seeing their accounts grow. I have recently finished my ACII exams, still enjoy playing lacrosse and netball, cooking and travelling, work in a highly motivated and successful team and company and am excited about the future.
